Who We Are

OUR TEAM IS THE FOUNDATION OF OUR BUSINESS.

With its origins in the award-winning HK Architectural Studio, Wheelhouse Construction is a natural extension of our team’s expertise in design-build, and oversees projects both alongside and independent of HK Studio. Our team is led by Heidi Hefferlin, who uses her skillset in architecture and general contracting to provide Wheelhouse clients with the best of both worlds: innovative design paired with practical implementation experience.

Heidi is joined by project manager Ray Kronenberg, a project manager who dives into the minutia to steer projects within the bounds of budget and schedule, Devon Kronenberg, the purchasing and scheduling specialist with a background in design, and Jessica Russell, the administrative center of Wheelhouse Construction. Together, Wheelhouse Construction provides our clients a dedicated, experienced, and thoroughly collaborative team.

Heidi Hefferlin

AIA, LEED AP, President

As founder of Wheelhouse Construction and HK Architects, Heidi oversees
day-to-day operations and works as a principal architect and general contractor on key projects. A native of Chattanooga, Heidi loves the city and its trove of industrial buildings. Heidi loves building, and built her first construction at 11 years of age—a barn for her horse. During college she worked summers roofing in Malibu, California as well as for a solar energy company in Boulder, Colorado. Later, Heidi worked on the Tabor Center Development in Denver. Her roles included assisting the architect, project manager, and graphic designer, which forms the basis of her well-rounded understanding of the many facets of a large construction project.

After college, Heidi began her architectural career in Los Angeles, working with renowned global agency Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, followed by Richard Meier & Partners and Ellerbe Beckett, before launching her own firm at age 29. With over 15 years of experience in development and over 30 years of experience in residential, commercial, retail, institutional, and hospitality projects, Heidi is committed to design that responds to the individual needs of the client and quality that endures.
